Some links to useful info about using, handling, and storing CDs and DVDs of all types, especially recordable media you want to keep around for several years (data archives and the like):
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) offers a page with hints about handling discs during all parts of a disc's life, from new in the box through recording into storage. The tips are provided in several PDF files, among them a one-page summary that includes the salient points and is an excellent primer for anyone using CDs to archive important data.
- Fred Langa at Information Week offers his own ideas for handling and storage.
- Kodak's Labeling CD-R Media page.
